Question:
What is boron? It does not sound like a nutritional supplement.

Answer:
Boron is a trace mineral. Although not officially listed as an essential nutrient, recent studies are indicating boron may be essential in maintaining healthy bone and joint function. Boron deficiency may be associated with an increased risk for post-menopausal bone loss. Boron appears to be necessary for the action of vitamin D - the vitamin that stimulates the absorption and utilization of calcium. Supplementing the diet of postmenopausal women with 3 mg of boron per day reduced urinary calcium excretion by 44%.

Boron may also play a role in joint health. Preliminary studies have shown that patients with osteoarthritis, juvenile arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis may see some improvement by taking 6-9 mg of boron daily.
