Question:
What is the best form of calcium?

Answer:
Calcium bound to citrate and other Krebs cycle intermediates such as fumarate, malate, succinate, and aspartate appears to be the best overall form of calcium. Refined calcium carbonate is also an excellent form for the majority of women. However, calcium carbonate is less well absorbed in people with low output of stomach acid.

Many calcium and bone-building nutritional formulas combine calcium carbonate and a more easily ionized form such as calcium citrate or Krebs cycle chelate. These combinations make sense. Why? Well, first of all, the net absorption of calcium provided by the combination is roughly identical whether you have normal or low stomach acid output. But the real reason manufacturers provide a combination is that you would have to take four to six times as many tablets to provide 1000 mg of calcium bound to citrate as you would for carbonate. So, a combination provides the best solution.
There are some forms of calcium that I strongly urge you to avoid because they tend to have high levels of lead. These forms are natural oyster shell calcium, dolomite, and bone meal products.

BodyBalance: MineralCheckMineralCheck is a safe, easy-to-use, and reliable screen that uses a small hair sample to measure your mineral and toxic metal levels. Hair samples show the long-term accumulation of minerals and heavy metals in your system. Hair is nourished from your bloodstream where minerals and toxics are found. This non-invasive and inexpensive screen provides you with the accuracy of a laboratory analysis without leaving the comfort of your own home. Exposure to heavy metals is linked to many different health conditions including high blood pressure, depression, attention deficit, disorder, and many neurological diseases. Even mild toxicity can lead to headache, fatigue, and impaired ability to think or concentrate.
