Question:
How does SAMe compare with St. John’s wort in relieving depression?

Answer:
Both are equally effective and safe. But, my recommendation is to try St. John’s wort first. Why? It is less costly. SAMe (short for S-Adenosylmethionine) is very expensive. At roughly $1.00 a pill for 200 mg, SAMe is going to cost anywhere from $30 to $90 a month (depending on the effective dosage, most studies used 600 mg per day). In contrast, St. John’s wort extract is at the most $15.00 a month when taking the recommended dosage of 900 mg daily of the 0.3% hypericin extract.

If St. John’s wort doesn’t work for you after two to four weeks of use, you can always switch to SAMe at that time. It is not uncommon for a person to respond to one antidepressant over another, whether prescription or natural. So, you and your doctor may have to do some detective work to find the right one.

BodyBalance: MineralCheckMineralCheck is a safe, easy-to-use, and reliable screen that uses a small hair sample to measure your mineral and toxic metal levels. Hair samples show the long-term accumulation of minerals and heavy metals in your system. Hair is nourished from your bloodstream where minerals and toxics are found. This non-invasive and inexpensive screen provides you with the accuracy of a laboratory analysis without leaving the comfort of your own home. Exposure to heavy metals is linked to many different health conditions including high blood pressure, depression, attention deficit, disorder, and many neurological diseases. Even mild toxicity can lead to headache, fatigue, and impaired ability to think or concentrate.
